One of Grown & Crated's Core Values is connecting artisan makers, craftsmen and small businesses to the people who appreciate the value and quality of their wares. To that end, today I am launching a new blog feature that we'll be publishing on a regular basis, The Maker's Dozen. We'll be interviewing our makers/vendors/craftsmen asking them a few (well, a dozen!) questions, so that you can get to know them a little bit. How fun is that?!
Our first Maker's Dozen is with half of The Jasmine Pearl Tea Company's owner team, Heather Agosta.
So with no further ado, I introduce you to Heather!
What do you love about the Pacific Northwest?
I love the trees, the mountains, the rivers. The Pacific Northwest has been my home all of my life, so you would think that I would take it for granted. Not so, I am still inspired daily by its natural beauty.
What’s your go-to midnight snack?
I’m not really a midnight snacker. I love eating my husband Chuck’s famous popcorn as an evening movie snack.
What was your first job?
I worked at a record store in Vancouver Mall in the mid-nineties. It was mostly cassette tapes at that time. It was a blast as a teenager to get to hear pre-release music during the grunge era. It gave me some real cred with my high school friends.
What inspires you?
Tea (of course!), the forest, music, art and meditation.
Tell us about a memorable gift you have received.
During our wedding reception, Chuck and I received a lot of arts and crafts from our friends and family. Not a single gift came from our wedding registry! Instead we received hand woven textiles, wood block prints, and pottery. Some of the gifts were made by our friends and some of it was purchased during their travels. It was a really meaningful reflection of our friends and family as well as a reflection of how they saw us as a couple.
What is your favorite local restaurant?
This is not a fair question. There are so many amazing restaurants in Portland, I couldn’t possibly pick one!
What are your favorite local spots to take visitors?
We love to take people to Powell’s Books, The Japanese Garden and, of course, our tea shop.
What was the last gift you gave?
The holidays just finished, so there was a lot of gift-giving. The most satisfying gifts to give were comfy robes and pajamas for my mother and sister-in-law. They were so happy to get them!
What are you watching on Netflix?
We get the DVD version of Netflix. Right now we have the newer Ghostbusters waiting to be watched.
Whose advice do you depend on?
I depend on my dad’s advice for business, my sister’s advice on art, my husband’s advice on problem-solving and my dog’s advice on learning unconditional love.
What is the last movie you saw in the theater?
Wonder Woman (twice)
What's one goal you have for the next six months?
To have as much fun as possible!
Thank you, Heather, for sharing a little bit about yourself with us!
